Inferno No Mundo.

Here's a great slice of Brazilian psych from the late sixties. While tropicalia takes the most attention within the pseudo world of Brazilian psychedelia, the more guitar and rock oriented albums seem to be less talked about. This is one such example. The album does showcase a bit of the Brazilian rhythms we have come to love but seems more rooted in garage blotter rock than cultural hero's Os Mutantes. The cover is also probably the best Brazilian psych record cover ever.

Don't turn the light on, leave me alone.

Got a request for this album. Can definitely has all the trappings for a desert island band. Timeless music that clearly has a beginning, middle, and end. Can also seems to transcend the moniker of simply stated kraut-rock. Each album has it's own unique individual tone and voice that sets itself apart from any of the others. The clear jam on this album is "Mother Sky". The song "Don't Turn The Light On, Leave Me Alone" also marks the first appearance of Damon Suzuki on a recorded Can track.http://www.mediafire.com/?fm41ro9gj4ry3

Earwigs to Eternity.

Finally back after the battery debacle. Got a few requests for some posts which are coming up very soon. In the meantime here's an amazing first record by Alice Cooper. I know most people are familiar with Alice but I wonder how many actually give the albums a chance. He almost better known for his on stage hi jinx, obsession with golf, Schools Out, and for looking older than dirt even when he was young. This is an amazing album that showcases the songwriting talent of every individual in the band and moves through psych, pop, and outlandish acid fever dreams. Frank Zappa signed the band to a three record deal after hearing that the band cleared the room of the Cheetah ( a then semi-famous L.A. rock club) in less than ten minutes. When he asked the band to demo personally for him, he insisted on the time of seven. The band showed up at seven a.m. to Zappa's house and woke him up to play their set. Before anyone could play Zappa was sold on the sheer outlandishness of their mistake. The three albums recorded for Zappa's Straight label (Pretties for You, Easy Action, and Love It To Death) are by far my favorite records by dear Alice. If you have not heard the three mentioned albums your in for a real treat by starting at the beginning. Swing low, sweet cheerio!http://www.mediafire.com/?k12s66ba3bspn

Astral Abuse.

I remember thinking at one point that Vangelis was just that geeky Greek band who did the Chariots of Fire soundtrack. As with many bands that span a few decades, Vangelis had their golden age in the mid 70's. "Who Killed The Dragon" collects the rare sessions cut for the BYG label. Two Vangelis tracks and two by Alpha Beta who is in fact Vangelis under a different name. Deep psychedelic mantras that sit atop the pantheon of Greek gods. Pagan Day.

Originally released on December 23rd of 1984 on the dreaded format of picture disc. Then released in 1986 on not dreaded black vinyl due to demand. The Cleopatra cd re-release wrongly states that this was issued on Christmas day of 1986 but either way the message is clear. This is by far one of my favorite Psychic TV records of all time. Thin four track psychedelia spun through the dark web of Genisis and Alex Fergusson. Merry Pagan Day.http://www.mediafire.com/?co3azfue457ei

Sinner.

Man. Fucking Christmas. I know I know, it's reaaaallllly fucking easy to hate on it and everything but my circuits are now definitely on the fritz. After running around like my asshole was on fire all day today, I came home and popped this on. Within two minutes of opening track "Song of a Sinner" I knew I would make it another eight hours until I have a hefty scotch night cap. Just listen to this and try and mellow out. http://www.mediafire.com/?g7t5d99x4icd7

Home taping is reinventing music.

While this album does have it's cult status amongst many people, I'm not sure if the beardy shoegaze squad fully accepted this into their ranks. The reason that it's here today should seem obvious. They need not only accept it but realize that this may very well be the greatest shoegaze act since My Bloody Valentine. True experimental sounds and a die hard lo-fi mentality make Flying Saucer Attacks debut self titled album one of the crown jewels of the genre. Most of these songs where recorded on a home stereo system by core members David Pearce and Rachel Brook. The layers of feedback only help to push the melodic drive of the songs. A cover of Suede's "The Drowners" is top notch too. Not an easy band to cover and they seem to easily create a lasting version that is entirely their own. Easily the best bedroom psych-shoegaze album of the 90's. Get abducted.http://www.mediafire.com/?spd71yvfmxci8

Enter the mirror.

Besides having the best band name ever which apparently is a combination of Japanese and French that sums up to mean "Fucked up and Naked", Les Rallizes Denudes live album from 1977 is ear shredding beauty at it's finest. Building the songs around simple bass and drum repetitions allow the guitars to open up a full scale attack. The focus is on building the songs and not just simple abstraction. Recently a few albums got the vinyl reissue treatment. I can only hope this gets the same attention that those studio albums got although I would be scared to see the retail price of it. This is a double cd which means the vinyl may have to be a triple if not a box of four lps. Sometimes though you just have to jump in head first. Even if it does carry the risk of ending up fucked up and naked.

My Solid German Record Collection.

Yet another point for Deutschland. My Solid Ground's lone album from 71 has a little bit of everything in it. The opening track is a very Floyd driven slow astral chugger but as soon as it comes to a close the meat is flung well out on "Flash Part IV". From here on out the album shifts gears flawlessly between kraut driven hard psych and moody droning dream screams. A perfect album for Fall. This is the Second Battle cd edition that had some bonus material on it as well. I would say this easily makes it into my top ten German kraut/psych records.

Slow Death.

Hendrix was a guitarist possessed by a force that made him closer to a cosmic energy than any actual living person on Earth. A force that was too strong to be held captive in his Earthly body. I would imagine that Chico (or rather Mahmoud Ayari) was cut from the same chaotic cosmic fabric that caused Hendrix to burn with such quick but nevertheless prophetic glory. Having been formed in Lyon in 69 as Chico and the Slow Death, the band by 1970 would be known as the Chico Magnetic Band. Their debt lp was released in 1973 and is a full blown supernova of blistering fret fire. What Chico does that Hendrix doesn't is take these songs and drag them through further regions of space where we can only hope that Hendrix would have explored if his ship would not have crashed. The album is further aided by the stellar production of J.P. Massiera who is no stranger to the further darker galaxies of space. Absolutely in a time and dimension of it's own. Explore!

Umberto's prophecy.

Here is the soundtrack to the greatest Dario Carpenter film that you never saw because Netflix didn't have it but should have found anyways. It's dark and eerie but still has that throbbing italo black leather glove and shiny knife splatter dance feel to it. Ahhh and that scene where the girl falls face first into the knife? You know which one I'm talking about? Fucking classic man.

Michigan Rumble.

Slept on this for-fucking-ever! Never heard this stunning and somewhat stark outing by Michigan garage maestros Index until the beginning of this year. Has that really cold isolated and downright proto-punk feel to the whole thing. But almost more pre-post-punk feel to it too. I know. What a complete train wreck of words there but this sounds like a record Factory would have put out in the later sixties.

Sweden's Sitar Heros

Sweden has many amazing psychedelic treasures to offer. Charlie and Esdor are just one culled from the overwhelming camp of Scando blotters. I'm a sucker for well played and well placed sitar as well so this is one of my favorite "pop" oriented Swedish psych albums. They also have a song called "Fuck The Cops" that was a protest song to cops who harassed legions of hippies living in a park in the middle of Stolkholm. The songs on this album come off a bit inconsistent as they never recorded a full length but are non the less enjoyable. This is they're entire recorded output that is pooled together from singles, comp tracks, and rare archived tapes.
